Knowwhatimean Surprises at Illinois Festival

Lightning Jet Handicap
In spite of being left at the gate, M.Y. Stables' outsider Knowwhatimean wound his way through a 12-horse field for jockey Seth Martinez to win the $114,050 Lightning Jet Handicap, one of six feature races for Illinois breds at Hawthorne Saturday.

Last through the opening half-mile of the six-furlong event after the poor start, Knowhatimean angled in late and reached the wire a half-length ahead of the pacesetter Silver Bid and Out for a Spin, who were separated by a nose for second and third. The final time was 1:11 1/5 on a fast track.

Knowwhatimean, a 4-year-old chestnut son of Emigrant Peak, was sent off at odds of 12-1. The 19-10 favorite Humor At Last wound up sixth.

Michael Nance trained the winner, who earned $71,430 for his ninth win in 20 lifetime starts. The victory pushed his bankroll to $183,170.

Knowwhatimean paid $26.80, $11 and $8.40. Silver Bid, ridden by Carlos Montalvo, returned $6.80 and $4. Out for a Spin, Miguel Mena aboard, was $7.60 to show.

High Alexander Handicap
The 5-year-old gelding Wiggins romped to a 4 3/4-length win over 19-10 choice High Expectations in the $105,950 High Alexander Handicap. Beabasque was a head farther back in third.

Trained by Dale Romans, Wiggins, who is by Cartwright, was ridden to victory by Christopher Emigh in a time of 1:44 4/5 for the 1 1/6-mile distance. He earned $67,920 for owners Pacella, Rizza, and Schwed.

Showtime Deb
The $92,300 Showtime Deb for 2-year-old fillies went to 11-10 favorite Rich Fantasy, ridden by Eusebio Razo Jr.

Rich Fantasy, vying for the lead throughout, was passed in the stretch by Lovely Love, with Carlos Silva aboard, only to come on again late for a half-length victory. Runner-up Lovely Love finished two lengths in front of Unreal Rocket. The final time for the six furlongs was 1:12.

Oxbow Racing LLC owns the daughter of Richter Scale who is trained by Ronny Werner. She earned $53,730 for the victory.

Sun Power
Russell L. Reineman Stable's Last Gran Standing, the odds-on 7-10 choice, was an easy 3 1/2-length winner of the $92,975 Sun Power for 2-year-old colts and geldings, completing the six furlongs in 1:12.

Brian Williamson trained the winner, a chestnut colt by Distorted Humor  who was ridden by Emigh. The victory was worth $53,685.

Silver Titan finished second, 1 1/2 lengths in front of Cartlets.

Powerless Handicap
Front-running Denoun N Deverb nipped Dharma Girl by a nose to win the $100,025 Powerless Handicap for fillies and mares, completing the six-furlong distance in 1:10 4/5.

Ridden by Gary Kurek for trainer Leroy Hellman, the chestnut daughter of Denouncer earned $61,965 for owners Robert T. Bockel, who bred her, and Dwight Espenschied.

Lady Riss finished three lengths farther back in third.

Illinois Princess Handicap
Meadow Bride, ridden by Silva, defeated the 2-5 favorite Jaguar City by a head in the $84,450 Illinois Princess Handicap for fillies and mares at 1 1/16 miles.

Jaguar City, ridden by Razo, led throughout but was lugging in late and was caught just before the wire by Meadow Bride, a 3-year-old filly by Runaway Groom. The final time was 1:45.

Richard Hazelton trains the winner for onwer/breeder Asiel Stable, who picked up the winner's share of $50,670. Meadow Bride went off at odds of 2-1.
