Fantasticat, a grade II-winning son of Storm Cat
, has been retired to stand at Maryland Stallion Station near Glyndon, Md.
Four-year-old Fantasticat scored his big win in the 2004 Super Derby (gr. II) at Louisiana Downs over Borrego, with Imperialism finishing fourth. Prior to the Super Derby, Fantasticat ran second in the Round Table Stakes at Arlington Park and was runner-up in the Super Derby prep, the Prelude Stakes.
"We're really pleased to be able to bring a horse of Fantasticat's pedigree and ability to Maryland," said farm president Donald Litz.
Fantasticat, who began his racing career in Ireland, raced in North America for Russ and Shelda Sherrod's R Bar S Thoroughbreds. He retired with 14 wins and placings from 23 starts and earnings of $447,984.
Fantasticat's dam, Lotta Dancing (by Alydar), was both a New York graded stakes winner and grade I stakes-placed. Second dam is grade I winner Lotka. Fantasticat's fee is $6,000.
