Favored Iosilver, ridden by Eddie Razo Jr., took control at the start and dominated his rivals to win the $100,000 Michael G. Schaefer Mile at Hoosier Park Saturday night. The gray continued to lengthen his lead over his challengers. Artemus Sunrise tried to challenge at the top of the stretch, but could not make up the eight-length spread."The plan was to get out of the gate clean and quick and get control of the race," said Razo, Jr. "Coming down the backside, I asked for a little more, and he was rolling pretty good at that point."The win is the third in a row for Iosilver. The Chris Block-trained gelding was hauled in from Hawthorne Racecourse after a win in a 1 1/16-mile allowance race."I think he's still learning," said Razo, Jr. "I've been on this horse since he was 2, and he just keeps getting better and better."Country Life Farm and Get The Glory bred Iosilver in Maryland. Darrell and Sadie Brommer own the Silver Ghost gelding, who has now earned $173,110 in his career.Morning line favorite Artemus Sunrise and Jesus Castanon gamely went three-wide at the top of the stretch to try to catch the gray streak. The pair finished second just a half-length in front of Private Horde and John McKee, who finished third.Iosilver and Razo, Jr.'s win paid $5.00, $2.60 and $3.20. The winning time was 1:37.52.
