Hollywood Park has increased overnight purses by 5%, retroactive to the Nov. 9 beginning of the autumn meet on Nov. 9. There are nine racing days remaining at the 27-day meeting, which concludes Monday, Dec. 19. Hollywood Park increased purses by 15% at the start of the meeting following the cancellation of turf racing. The additional increase, which will be paid immediately, has been approved by the Thoroughbred Owners of California.
"We are in an underpayment situation," track general manager Eual G. Wyatt Jr. said. "We would rather pay the money now than in January. We're very appreciative of all the horsemen -- the TOC and the CTT (California Thoroughbred Trainers) -- for their support in helping us deal with the extraordinary set of circumstances we found ourselves in entering this meeting."
