Son of Bernstein Wins Argentina's Pellegrini

Storm Mayor, a 3-year-old son of Bernstein, caught Forty Licks in the final strides to win the Gran Premio Internacional Carlos Pellegrini (Arg-I), South America's most important race, by a head on Saturday at San Isidro in Buenos Aires.

Baader, who led to mid-stretch, wound up in third.

Storm Mayor, who had never been longer than seven furlongs prior to a third-place finish in the Argentine Derby (Arg-I) last month, completed the 1 1/2-mile event in 2:23.41 for his third win in eight career starts. Robert Alejandro Desvard trains the winner for Stud Starlight. Pablo Falero was the winning rider.

Storm Mayor is out of the Egg Toss mare Maya Toss. The victory helped his sire, Bernstein, a son of Storm Cat, cap an outstanding year. He ranks fifth on the Argentine general stallion list for purses with just one crop of racing age, according to Julian Dollar, general manager of Castleton Lyons.
