Mario Pino Wins Five at Laurel

Jockey Mario Pino won five races at Laurel Park Sunday, including a 4 1/4-length victory in the $50,000 Pin Oak Stud LLC/Hildene Stakes with Cinnamon Charlie.

C D & G Stable's Cinnamon Charlie, a daughter of Indian Charlie, took command at the start from her inside post and ran away from the field of Virginia-bred 2-year-old fillies. She crossed under the finish line in 1:13.31, far ahead of second favorite Scholastic Giant, who was 6 1/4 lengths clear of Virginia Baby.

The winner paid $3. Robert Klesaris trains her.

Besides his victory in the feature, Pino won with Great Saint ($8.00) in the fourth, Royal Rahy ($20.00) in the fifth, Tartlet ($24.80) in the sixth, and Evasive ($6.00) in the seventh.

Pino's best performance in Maryland was a six-win day at Laurel Park on October 25, 2003. He won seven on a single day at Colonial Downs on July 7, 2002. Pino has ridden 5,626 winners during his career, ranking him sixteenth all-time among jockeys.
