Trainer Benny Feliciano Aims for 10th Straight

By Jon White
Trainer Benny Feliciano will be trying to extend his winning streak to 10 when he sends out Millie Feliciano's Clever Jimmy C in Saturday's 13th race at Thistledown, a six-furlong contest for $3,500 claimers.

The 7-2 morning line favorite in a field of 11, Clever Jimmy C will be attempting to continue a winning streak of his own Saturday. He has won four straight. All of those triumphs have come at the $3,500 claiming level. An Ohio-bred son of Brent's Danzig–Clever Miss Cane, by King Cane, Clever Jimmy C will be making his 50th lifetime start Saturday. He has 12 career victories, all at Thistledown.

Feliciano's winning streak began Oct. 20 when Shades of Time took a $3,500 claiming race at Thistledown. The 54-year-old conditioner lost Shades of Time via the claim box Dec. 1 for $5,000, which left only Clever Jimmy C and El Keko in the Feliciano barn.

The streak reached nine when El Keko won a two-mile starter allowance race by seven lengths as a 1-2 favorite at Thistledown Dec. 7. It was El Keko's ninth victory of 2005.

The trainer's son, Ricardo Felciano, has ridden all nine winners during the streak and is named to ride Clever Jimmy C in Saturday's race.

HRTV will present bonus coverage of Saturday's 13th race at Thistledown. Post time is 4:13 ET.

The North American record for consecutive wins by a trainer is 14, set by Frank Passero at Gulfstream Park in 1996.
