Feliciano's 9-Race Win Streak Ends at Thistledown

Trainer Benny Feliciano's nine-race winning streak ended Saturday when his favored Clever Jimmy C ran second in the 13th race at Thistledown.

The 9-5 choice in a six-furlong contest for $3,500 claimers, Clever Jimmy C led the field of 10 into the stretch with Rigo Sarmiento aboard but could not hold off the fast-closing B.D. Victor, who won by 1 1/2 lengths. The final time was 1:12 3/5.

Clever Jimmy C was looking for his fourth straight win.

Feliciano's winning streak began Oct. 20 when Shades of Time took a $3,500 claiming race at Thistledown. The 54-year-old conditioner lost Shades of Time via the claim box Dec. 1 for $5,000, which left only Clever Jimmy C and El Keko in the Feliciano barn.

The streak reached nine when El Keko won a two-mile starter allowance race by seven lengths as a 1-2 favorite at Thistledown Dec. 7. It was El Keko's ninth victory of 2005.

The trainer's son, Ricardo Felciano, rode all nine winners during the streak.

The North American record for consecutive wins by a trainer is 14, set by Frank Passero at Gulfstream Park in 1996.
