Arroyo Begins Year With a Bang at Aqueduct

Jockey Norberto Arroyo Jr. won the first four races on Sunday's New Year's Day card, the first day of Aqueduct's winter meet.

Arroyo then won the second with Daytime Promise ($3.80) and the third with Uswept ($11.80), both for ) for trainer Gary Contessa, and the fourth with Paige Nicole ($4.20), again for Dutrow.

Arroyo, a 29-year-old native of Puerto Rico, saw his streak halted in the featured Interborough Handicap when favored Bank Audit ran fourth to Comacina.

"It's a great way to start the year," Arroyo said. "I feel great; as good as I've ever felt in my career."

Dutrow, brother of Richard Dutrow Jr., saddled his third winner of the afternoon when Liquid Romance ($5.90) won the ninth and final race of the day.
