English Classic Winner Moonshell Dead

English classic winner Moonshell died Jan. 21 from hemorraging after delivering a Pivotal colt at Woodpark Stud in County Meath, Ireland. The 14-year-old Irish-bred daughter of Sadler's Wells out of the Kris mare Moon Cactus was bred by Sheikh Mohammed.

Moonshell won the 1995 Vodafone Epsom Oaks (Eng-I) and ran third in the Madagans One Thousand Guineas (Eng-I) for Sheikh Maktoum and Godolphin. She raced just five times over three years and retired with two wins and two placings and earnings of $277,282.

Moonshell produced five named foals, two of which are winners. She also is the granddam of Australian stakes winner Miss Finland. Moonshell was a full sister to English champion Doyen.
