Shubeck had been the general manager of MEC Pennsylvania Racing at The Meadows since 2002. There, he was responsible for overseeing both on-track and off-track betting operations for The Meadows and its four off-track betting locations. Prior to that appointment, he served seven years as an associate general manager for the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority and was responsible for both Monmouth Park and the Meadowlands Racetrack. Shubeck said the challenge Lone Star faces with the April 13 meet opening is competition for the wagering dollar. "I think everybody understands it's a highly competitive sports market. There's some great sports entertainment in the Dallas/Forth Worth area," he said. "There is also pressure from out of state gaming to lure people from Texas to other states for expanded gaming."
Former Pennsylvania racing executive Drew Shubeck has been named vice president and general manager of Lone Star Park, which is owned by Magna Entertainment Corp. Shubeck replaces Jeff Greco.Shubeck said one of his first items of business would be to request permission from the Texas Racing Commission for Lone Star to switch tote companies from United Tote to Am Tote. The commission is scheduled to meet Feb. 21. "I'm thrilled with the opportunity to join the Lone Star Park team," Shubeck said. "Like many Texans, I have a great passion for the horse and live horseracing. I look forward to working with this great group of employees to ensure that we continue to deliver a high level of customer service to all guests, horsemen, corporate partners and community leaders."
