On Wednesday, the annual Malaysia Airlines Magic Millions 2-Year-Old Classic, worth Aus$200,000, will be run in Western Australia and this will be followed by session two of the Perth sale.
The Australian annual "Summer of Selling" continued on Tuesday with the yearling caravan moving to Perth in Western Australia. Magic Millions conducted this sale and as has been the situation in every sale thus far, it was a record-setting opening day.More than Aus$7.3 million was spent on 186 yearlings during a session that provided a session aggregate and average price record as well as a top price that equaled the all-time Perth yearling sale record. The session one average of Aus$39,403 was up over 30% on the corresponding session last year. And the session aggregate of Aus$7,329,000 almost doubled from last year's figure of Aus$4,418,000.But the talking point was the sale of the stunning filly by champion Australian sire General Nediym. She came into the ring as Lot 13, and was truly a work of art. She fetched Aus$200,000, but would have made more had she been offered at a sale on Australia's Eastern seaboard.A member of the quality draft from Dawson Stud, the filly was purchased by leading Sydney-based bloodstock agent Kieran Moore. She is out of La Fontaine ."She's the nicest General Nediym filly I have seen anywhere in Australia this year," Moore said. "She walks like a panther and has a great head and outlook."Moore even said she looked a lot like General Nediym's former champion filly Regimental Gal, who he purchased as a broodmare for Aus$800,000 at the Magic Millions national broodmare sale on the Gold Coast last June.Magic Millions managing director David Chester was delighted with the opening results. "The best ever buying bench we've ever assembled helped give us a day of record figures today," Chester said. "The quality yearlings in the catalogue were the subject of healthy competition from buyers from all around the world."
