Your Bluffing Shows Cards in Campbell Romp

(from Laurel Park report)
R.D.M. Racing Stable's Your Bluffing was the easiest kind of winner as the 1-5 favorite in Saturday's $80,000 John B. Campbell Breeders' Cup Handicap at Laurel Park.

A winner of thirteen races in 18 starts at Laurel Park and five starts in a row at the Maryland track, Your Bluffing and jockey Mario Pino were unhurried while racing in tight along the rail during much of the nine-furlong test. At the top of the lane, Pino angled Your Bluffing into the clear and bounded away to a 6 3/4-length victory.

The 6-year-old gelding was eased up going under the wire and came home in 1:51.30 over the fast main track, paying $2.40, $2.10, and $2.10 across the board. Water Cannon ($2.60, $2.10) took second and What's What ($2.10) finished third in the five-horse field.

"He was much the best," Pino said. "I knew any time he was going to get a clear shot, (that) he was going to go on by them. He had a couple extra gears, but I didn't want to use them cause he had put them away at the top of the lane."

Winning trainer Michael Trombetta added, "Your Bluffing is such a dependable horse. He just keeps giving and giving. We're having a lot of fun with him. He was a good 3-year-old, he was a better 4-year-old, and he's better than he's ever been. He looks nothing like he did at age three. He's really grown up into a super-mature athlete. His numbers are solid; he tries hard and loves this place."

The son of Pine Bluff is now 14 of 33 lifetime for earnings of $371,045.

Water Cannon, ridden by Luis Garcia, set the early pace of :24 2/5, :47 3/5 and 1:12 3/5 before giving way with three-sixteenths of a mile to go.
