Buzzards Bay and Greeley's Galaxy, major stakes winners as 3-year-olds last year who are coming off disappointing efforts in Southern California, can make amends Monday in the $150,000 All American Handicap (gr. III) at Golden Gate Fields.
Santa Anita Derby (gr. I) winner Buzzards Bay failed to fire and ran fourth in the Sunshine Millions Classic at Santa Anita Jan. 28 for trainer Ron Ellis. Illinois Derby (gr. II) champion Greeley's Galaxy, conditioned by Warren Stute, also ran fourth in his most recent try at Santa Anita in the Strub Stakes (gr. II), but he was never a factor.
The Jerry Hollendorfer-trained Trickey Trevor, who got cooked in a speed duel in the Millions' Classic and finished seventh after winning his preceding three races in a row, also rates as a top contender in the 1 1/8-mile All American, which drew a field of seven. Hollendorfer also entered Adreamisborn and Ace Blue.
Greeley's Galaxy, who has had bleeding problems in the past, comes back after only two weeks. He adds blinkers for the All American, as well.
With his early speed, Trickey Trevor appears to have a tactical edge over his rivals. Trickey Trevor, who shares top weight of 120 pounds with Adreamisborn, is unbeaten on a wet track, which is likely after quite a bit of rain during the weekend. The 7-year-old, to be ridden by Russell Baze, is the 9-5 morning line choice.$150,000 All American Handicap (gr. III, Race 8, 4:26 p.m.), 4 & up, 1 1/8 miles
