Ladies Souvenir Steps Up for Santa Paula

Golden Eagle Farm's undefeated Ladies Souvenir, who easily won her only two starts in Northern California by a combined 13 ½ lengths for trainer Greg Gilchrist, takes a big step Saturday in the $100,000-added Santa Paula (gr. III) for 3-year-old fillies at Santa Anita.

The bay daughter of Souvenir Copy, coming off a 12-length win against first-level allowance foes March 9 at Golden Gate Fields, is among seven fillies entered for the 6 1/2-furlong event. Alex Solis has the call.

Moon Han's El Mirage Queen and Michael House's Candy Jo, one-two finishers in the six-furlong Tapestry earlier this month at Santa Anita, are also entered. El Mirage Queen, a daughter of Gilded Time trained by Han, defeated the pacesetting Candy Jo, trained by Jeff Mullins, by a head at odds of 16-1.

Acceleration, another Mullins trainee, finished third in the Tapestry.

Bettarun Fast, trained by Vladimir Cerin, is coming off a second-place finish in the 6 1/2-furlong La Habra, which was switched from the Santa Anita turf to the main track March 5. The Florida-bred filly by Kelly Kip has three wins and two places in seven lifetime starts.
