New Jersey Trainer Walter Medio Dead

Retired trainer Walter Medio, 77, died April 8 at his Vineland, N.J. home. A Vineland native and lifelong resident, Medio was named trainer of the year in 1991 at Atlantic City Race Course. In 1998, Atlantic City honored him for his contribution and dedication to the sport.

Medio conditioned stakes winners Over Protected and Plain all Over. The latter won the 1989 Bloomfield College and Prom Stakes, both at Meadowlands, and the 1991 Shamrock Stakes at Garden State Park.

Medio's survivors include his companion, Joan Milanesi, and a daughter, Marion.
