Sun King Faces 11 Foes in Commonwealth

A deep field of 12 older sprinters heads to the gate for Saturday's $400,000, seven-furlong Commonwealth Breeders' Cup (gr. II) at Keeneland.

Tracy Farmer's Sun King is the 3-1 morning line favorite for trainer Nick Zito. Sun King finished last of eight in the Gulfstream Park Handicap (gr. II) last month, but must be respected off his three graded stakes victories last year and nearly $1.4 million in earnings. The 4-year-old son of Charismatic ran fourth in last year's Bluegrass (gr. I) at Keeneland. Corey Nakatani is the rider.

The Todd Pletcher-trained Vicarage, a 10-length winner of Keeneland's Perryville (gr. III) in October, is listed at 7-2. John Velazquez has the mount on Vicarage, who starts from the rail.

Trainer Eddie Kenneally, who won the Ashland (gr. I) on opening weekend with Bushfire, sends out Kelly's Landing, 4-1 on the morning line. Kelly's Landing set a Churchill Downs six-furlong track record of 1:07.59 in winning the Aristides (gr. III) June 25 at odds of 11-1. Kelley's Landing went to the sidelines later in the summer, following surgery for a knee chip, and came back at Gulfstream Park in March with a sparkling allowance victory. Edgar Prado gets the call.

Kazoo ships from New York for trainer Richard Dutrow Jr. following a victory in the Toboggan (gr. III) at Aqueduct in his last start, while Mister Fotis comes off a surprise win in the Richter Scale Breeders' Cup (gr. II) at Gulfstream for Marty Wolfson.
