WinStar Farm Acquires Interest in Sharp Humor

Bill Casner and Kenny Troutt's WinStar Farm has acquired an interest in classic contender Sharp Humor. Bred by Patricia Purdy and owned by Purdedel Stable, Sharp Humor won the Swale Stakes (gr. II) and finished second to Barbaro, beaten a half-length, in the Florida Derby (gr. I), both at Gulfstream Park in his last two starts.

A son of WinStar stallion Distorted Humor , Sharp Humor recently was named 2005 New York champion 2-year-old male. He captured last year's Bertram F. Bongard and Sleepy Hollow Stakes, two stakes won in 2002 by Distorted Humor's son, Funny Cide, who went on to win the Kentucky Derby (gr. I) and Preakness Stakes (gr. I) the following year. Sharp Humor has amassed career earnings of $456,410.

"Sharp Humor is a gorgeous colt with brilliant speed and, more impressively, the ability to carry that speed," said WinStar president Doug Cauthen. "He possesses the strong determination that Distorted Humor has been passing along to his progeny. He's great looking, he's precocious, he's brilliant, and he's bred to run at classic distances."

Sharp Humor, who is out of the Hansel mare Bellona, will race in the Kentucky Derby presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) in the colors of Purdedel Stable.

Majority Purdedel partner Ed Edelberg said, "I'm excited to be associated with WinStar. Wouldn't it be nice if another New York-bred son of Distorted Humor crossed the finish line first on the first Saturday in May?"
