Lloyd Hired as Barretts Vice President

(Edited Barretts press release)

Kim Lloyd is the new vice president sales for Barretts Equine Ltd. in Southern California. Barretts president and general manager Jerry McMahon announced Lloyd's hiring on Monday, and the former trainer will join the Thoroughbred auction firm's staff on May 15.

"It has become more important than ever for sales companies to reach out to consignors and buyers, and we felt that Kim had the perfect background to help us do that more effectively," McMahon said in a prepared statement. "His winning personality and broad experience as a horseman will be invaluable assets to our business. He'll spend a lot of his time at farms and training centers, as well as on the backstretch, informing our customers about the opportunities available to them at our auctions.

Lloyd, 51, began training in 1985 after learning the business from the ground up as a hot walker and groom. He trained a second string for Hall of Famer W.L. Proctor for a number of years before going on his own, during which time he trained stakes runners such as Tangent, Staralamo, Fu Man Slew, Boundless Beauty, and Royal Regatta.

Lloyd retired from training in 2001 and has most recently been employed as fleet sales manager for a prominent Southern California automobile dealership.
