Record Crowd on Hand for Preakness

The Maryland Jockey Club reported Saturday night that a record crowd of 118,402 was on hand for the 131st Preakness Stakes (gr. I) in Baltimore. Bright blue skies and mild temperatures were a factor in the figure that eclipsed last year's mark of 115,318. It makes for the sixth year in a row that Pimlico has hosted more than 100,000 patrons for the middle jewel of the Triple Crown.

Total handle on the day's card at Pimlico was $87,544,368, the third highest in history. Last year, when Afleet Alex won the Preakness, $91,028,704 was bet on the day's card.
