Maker's Mark Barrelhead to be Auctioned for Charity

Edited Jockeys' Guild press release

A Maker's Mark barrelhead signed by Kentucky Derby (gr. I)-winning jockeys, including this year's winner, Edgar Prado, will be auctioned on eBay to benefit the Disabled Jockeys' Endowment and the James Graham Brown Cancer Center in Louisville.

The collaborative effort is the latest in the partnership between the Jockeys' Guild and the Cancer Center to raise funds for the organization's worthy causes--assisting disabled jockeys and supporting cancer research and services.

The barrelhead also has signatures of Triple Crown winning jockeys Ron Turcotte, Jean Cruguet, and Steve Cauthen, and Maker's Mark president Bill Samuels, Jr. The collectible was signed by the jockeys as they walked the red carpet at this year's Mint Jubilee Gala May 5.

An online auction for the barrelhead will be set up on from June 5-11. The public may visit Morton's, the Steakhouse in Louisville to see the autographed barrelhead firsthand. The winning bidder will be announced by Bill Samuels at a bourbon tasting and check presentation June 20 at the restaurant.

"We are grateful to Maker's Mark and Morton's for supporting the Cancer Center and the Disabled Jockeys' Endowment," said Darrell Haire, interim national manager for the Jockeys' Guild. "Their support is helping to increase the public's awareness and support of two important causes."
