Frankel Invader Heads Dallas Turf Cup Cast

Southern California invader New Export, a 5-year-old Brazilian-bred from the barn of trainer Bobby Frankel, is the 4-5 morning line favorite in a six-horse field for Saturday's $200,000 Dallas Turf Cup Handicap (gr. IIIT) at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas.

Locally based Waupaca, the 2-1 second choice after collecting his sixth career stakes win last month, appears to pose the biggest threat to the multiple Brazilian group I New Export winner in the 1 1/8-mile turf event.

Later on the card, popular Southwest sprinter Boots On Sunday, now 9-years-old, will come out of a 3 ½-year retirement to race six furlongs in the $40,000 Carter McGregor Jr. Memorial Stakes against fellow Texas-breds.

New Export, who arrived in Texas on a Thursday morning flight from Southern California, finished third behind multiple stakes winner Willow O Wisp in his U.S. debut, the Inglewood Handicap (gr. IIIT) at Hollywood Park. Prior to that, he won two major group 1 events in Brazil: the 2005 Gran Premio Estado do Rio de Janeiro (one mile on turf) and 2005 Gran Premio Francisco Eduardo de Paula Machado (1 ¼ miles on turf).

"This race here looks like a good spot for him to come back," said Frankel, who won the Dallas Turf Cup with Martiniquais in 1999 and El Gran Papa in 2001.

TNT Stud and Michael Bello's New Export, to be ridden by Lone Star's leading rider Cliff Berry, landed post position No. 4 and is the co-starting high weight at 116 pounds.

Also assigned 116 is Southwest turf star Wapauca, who will break from post 2 under Quincy Hamilton. Last month, Waupaca rolled to a four-length triumph at Lone Star in the $40,000 Connecting Terms Stakes for trainer Donnie K. Von Hemel and owner Wayne Sanders of Dallas.
