Point Determined, Arson Squad Work Toward Swaps

Affirmed Handicap (gr. III) winner Point Determined and Arson Squad, third-place finisher in that race on June 17, worked at Santa Anita Tuesday for a rematch in the $350,000-added Swaps Breeders' Cup Stakes (gr. II) at Hollywood Park on Saturday. The test for 3-year-olds will be run at 1 1/8 miles.

Point Determined worked five furlongs in :58.80 under jockey Victor Espinoza while Arson Squad covered four furlongs in :50.60 for the Bruce Headley stable.

"Point Determined worked good; I don't think the extra distance will be a problem," said trainer Bob Baffert of the Point Given  colt owned by the Robert and Beverly Lewis Trust.

Baffert seeks to equal the trainer record of four Swaps victories held by D. Wayne Lukas. Baffert won previously with Captain Steve in 2000, Congaree  in 2001, and During in 2003.

Headley hopes Arson Squad can succeed 2005 Swaps winner Surf Cat in the winner's circle.

"He just had an easy breeze this morning," said Headley. "He worked five furlongs in :58 a week ago.

"He's very sharp," cautioned Headley. "He was closing on the leaders in his last two races, and the extra distance should help his style."

A.P. Warrior, who finished a nose behind Point Determined in the Affirmed, is also expected back for the Swaps under David Flores.
