Delaware Park Cancels Because of Extreme Heat

Edited press release

The heat wave that has hit the Mid-Atlantic region led Delaware Park to cancel its live racing program for July 18.

John Wayne, administrator of Thoroughbred racing for the Delaware Thoroughbred Racing Commission, said the action was taken on the advice of the commission's veterinarian, who said the extreme heat poses a threat to the health and safety of the jockeys and the horses.

Racing is expected to resume July 19. Post time is 12:45 p.m. EDT.
