Biancone Tries Modesty With Louve Royale

Louve Royale, most recently a fast-closing third in the Mint Julep Handicap (gr. IIIT) at Churchill Downs June 17, is the 5-2 morning line favorite in a field of 10 turf fillies and mares assembled for Saturday's $150,000 Modesty Handicap (gr. IIIT) at Arlington Park.

The Modesty is the final local prep for the Aug. 12 Beverly D. (gr. IT), at the Beverly D. distance of a 1 3/16 miles over Arlington's world renowned turf course. It drew an evenly matched field of 10.

The Modesty Handicap is one of three six-figure stakes races on turf that comprise the track's Million Preview Day program. The card also includes the $200,000 Arlington Handicap (gr. IIIT) for older horses and the $250,000 American Derby (gr. IIT), presented by Jack Daniel's, for 3-year-olds.

An Irish-bred daughter of Peintre Celebre, Joseph Allen's Louve Royale made a nine-wide rally from 10th position to finish third in the 1 1/16-mile Mint Julep and should benefit from the added furlong of the Modesty. Earlier this year, the Patrick Biancone-trained mare finished second in the 1 1/2-mile Bewitch Stakes (gr. IIIT) at Keeneland in April and won at that same 12-furlong distance in the Top Corsage Handicap at Churchill the following month. Julien Leparoux, the nation's leading rider in wins who will be making his Arlington Park debut Saturday, will ride the 5-year-old mare Saturday.

Royal Copenhagen and Round Heels both invade from the Southern California homebase of trainer Laura de Seroux.

Royal Copenhagen, a 4-year-old daughter of Inchinor, captured the Pucker Stakes (gr. IIIT) over the Arlington course as a 3-year-old in September but is winless in four starts this year.

Round Heels, a 5-year-old Daggers Drawn mare, has made only two starts in this country after a six-win European campaign that included victories in Italy and France.

Florida-based Potra Clasica was awarded the victory in her most recent start, the $45,000 Liberada Stakes on the Calder turf, following the disqualification of Baena. Prior to that, the Marty Wolfson-trained daughter of Potrillon captured the Hollywood Wildcat Breeders' Cup Handicap over that same course.
