Owner-Breeder Ostrager Named NYRA Trustee

Edited NYRA release
Barry R. Ostrager, a senior litigation partner and head of the litigation department of Simpson Thacher, has been elected to the New York Racing Association's Board of Trustees. His appointment will be official, pending approval from the New York State Racing and Wagering Board.

President of the Board of Directors of the New York Thoroughbred Breeders' Inc. (NYTB), Ostrager, 59, is a graduate of New York University School of Law. He was named one of New York's "Influentials" in the May 15, 2006 issue of New York magazine. On June 27, 2006, Simpson Thacher was named "US Law Firm of the Year" by The Lawyer magazine, and also in June 2006, Ostrager was himself named the best commercial trial lawyer in the U.S. by Chambers and Partners.

"We are extremely happy to have Barry on our Board of Trustees," said C. Steven Duncker, chairman of the NYRA Board. "He brings a brilliant legal mind to the Board and passion as a Thoroughbred racing fan, horse owner, significant breeder, and stallion manager."

He has taken an active role as president of the NYTB, a position he has held since 2004 after serving two years as its vice president. Ostrager began breeding thoroughbreds in New York in the early 1980's and is now the principal owner of Questroyal Stud, LLC. He breeds to race and sell, and owns alone or in partnership scores of broodmares and has stood several stallions including Belong To Me, Gold Token, Gold Fever, Tomorrows Cat, Hansel, Strategic Mission, Roaring Fever, Cimarron Rain and Fantastic Cat.

"I am pleased and flattered to join the board of such a distinguished and dynamic organization that is presently doing so much for the breeding industry," Ostrager said. "I look forward to working with the NYRA team to sustain and advance New York racing in the coming decades."
