Monmouth Park Racetrack has canceled its live Thoroughbred racing card for Saturday due to high winds and heavy rains that are remnants of Tropical Storm Ernesto."We were hopeful that we'd be able to race the live card today," said Robert Kulina, vice president of racing and general manager at Monmouth. "The preliminary forecasts were for the whole thing to blow over around 11 o'clock this morning. Unfortunately the weather -- and more specifically the wind -- didn't subside early enough to facilitate live racing and for the safety of the horses and riders it was best to call it off."Live racing is to resume at Monmouth on Sunday. All patrons at the track on Saturday received rain check passes for a future live racing date.
Two stakes races scheduled Saturday, the $150,000 Red Bank (gr. IIIT) and the $100,000 City Zip, will be carded either Sept. 9 or 10.Monmouth Park and the Meadowlands will remain open day and night for simulcasting on Saturday.
