Puglisi Stable and Steve Klesaris' Miraculous Miss went from last after a half-mile to post a 1 1/2-length victory under Ramon Dominguez in the $200,900 Endine (gr. III) for 3-year-old fillies at Delaware Park Saturday. The daughter of Mr. Greeley, trained by Klesaris, won the six-furlong event in 1:09 4/5.Miraculous Miss broke a step slowly and trailed the field as Gilded Gold led the field through fractions of :22 1/5 and :45. She fanned five wide coming off the turn and rallied past the leaders to take command leaving the furlong marker.Gilded Gold, with Roberto Alvarado Jr., finished second. It was another half-length further back Coli Bear, with Eibar Coa aboard, in third. Coli Bear raced as part of a Klesaris-trained entry with the winner. The favored entry of Miss Elsie and Hello Liberty finished sixth and seventh, respectively. The Kentucky-bred chestnut Miraculous Miss raised her record to six wins from seven starts with earnings of $417,120."She sees the target and hits the target," said Klesaris, referring to her late closing kick. "She is mainly a dead closer, and she has won this way before. She has been this far out of it before. She did it in the Forward Gal, and she was dead last at the five-sixteenth pole in that race and swung around them and won going away."Klesaris was happy to get a victory with her in her first start back since being a late scratch at the gate in the Acorn Stakes (gr. I) at Belmont Park.
"There was a lot of misfortune in that race," he said. "I think, with the cameras and everything around the gate, something just rattled her. That is not her behavior. She had never done anything like that in the morning or at the races. It was just one of those unfortunate things, especially since it was a grade I race. "Beyond that, we had to take extra time with her to make sure she was okay physically as well as mentally. Getting her back into the starting gate and to the races was a challenge. It is a real thrill to have her back and to have her perform the way she did today."The winning entry paid $6.60, $3.60, and $4.20. Gilded Gold returned $11.60 and $7.80.That's Our Song finished fourth, followed by Ebony Breeze, Miss Elsie, Hello Liberty, and Hot Storm. (Chart, Equibase)
