Another deadline looming is for early-bird nominations for the 16th annual Louisiana Champions Day on Dec. 9. A total of $1.1 million for Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses bred in Louisiana will be offered on the 11-race program, which includes the newest addition to the schedule, the Ladies Sprint.The early deadline for Champions Day is Friday. Fair Grounds Race Course is now accepting stall applications for the 2006-07 racing season, its first back in New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina.Stall applications can be found at racing offices and HBPA offices around the country or downloaded from Fair Grounds' Web site. Owners or trainers may also request a copy by mail by calling (504) 944-5515.Applications must be postmarked by Sept. 30. Fair Grounds' backstretch will re-open on Nov. 1, three weeks prior to the opening of the 81-day meet on Thanksgiving Day.
