Majestic Stream Deserves Look in Super Derby

(from Louisiana Downs track notes)
Lawyer Ron pranced around the stakes barn at Harrah's Louisiana Downs on Wednesday afternoon. A few hours earlier he had drawn post two for Super Derby XXVII and was installed as the 8-5 morning line favorite.

A few stalls down stood Majestic Stream, a large and imposing son of Fusaichi Pegasus  born in Louisiana who will cross paths with his much more accomplished rival on Saturday along with six others.

Majestic Stream is a wise-guy horse. Through seven career starts he has just one victory but owner/trainer Clyde Veltmann religiously studied his colt's races, finding excuses here or there and legitimate reasons why Majestic Stream, despite starting seven times, has just earned one victory.

Majestic Stream earned his first career win against older horses in the Ruidoso Mile by a convincing 2 1/2 lengths before losing the Ruidoso Derby.

"I looked at his replays, and there were some mistakes in the race riding," said Veltmann. "But (Majestic Stream) came back angry from that last race, and we're here to take on the big boys."

Veltmann is enjoying his time at Harrah's Louisiana Downs. During the post position draw he kept a cell phone on the table of the stage to simulcast the event home to New Mexico. He was also interviewed by local media and remained all smiles throughout the day. He even joked about trash talking with his neighbor, trainer Bob Holthus, who saddles Lawyer Ron.

All But Two on the Grounds: All Super Derby horses are on the grounds at Harrah's Louisiana Downs. Follow The Storm and Costa Rising will ship in the morning of the race.
