Graded Winner Melhor Ainda Retired

Melhor Ainda, a 4-year-old graded stakes-winning daughter of Pulpit, has been retired from racing because of ankle problems.

Trained by Bobby Frankel for Goncalo Borges Torrealba's Stud TNT, Melhor Ainda made all eight of her starts on grass and won five of them. She captured her first four races before finishing second in the 2005 American Oaks Invitational Stakes (gr. IT) to Japanese-bred Cesario.

Melhor Ainda took the Miss Grillo Stakes as a 2-year-old in her second start, and then won the Appalachian and Sands Point (gr. IIIT) Stakes at three. After the American Oaks, she finished a neck behind the winner in third in the Beverly D. Stakes (gr. IT). In what would be her sole start this year, she won the Capades Stakes in July. She retired with earnings of $483,216.

Bred in Kentucky by Jayeff B Stables and Reynolds Bell Jr., Melhor Ainda is out of the Argentina group I winner Potrinner (by Potrillazo). Stud TNT bought Melhor Ainda for $125,000 from Claiborne Farm, agent, at the 2003 Keeneland September yearling sale.

Melhor Ainda will reside at William S. Farish's Lane's End/Oak Tree Division near Lexington. Breeding plans are undecided.
