The Daddy is a half-brother to 2006 grade II winner With a City. His stakes-placed dam, With a Princess (by With Approval), is already committed to be bred to recently retired grade I winner Bluegrass Cat.
The Daddy, winner of the last year's Super Derby (gr. II), has been retired from racing, according to Daily Racing Form. The splint bone that the 4-year-old son of Valid Expectations injured in the Super Derby hasn't heeled properly enough to suit owner Greg Norman. The Daddy raced four times and won three in the span of just 2 1/2 months in 2005. In the Super Derby, he beat A. P. Arrow in what proved to be his last start. He also won at Hollywood Park and Saratoga (by a dozen lengths) and ran fourth in the King's Bishop Stakes (gr. I), won by Lost in the Fog, at the Spa. He retired with earnings of $517,700 for trainer Salvador G. Gonzalez.Bred in New York by Bill Farish and Gaillardia, The Daddy was bought by Norman for $125,000 at the 2003 Saratoga yearling sale from Summerfield, agent.
