The Scripps Howard Foundation has signed on to help sponsor "Charity Night at the Tables, a Celebration of Community Giving," allowing the annual Northern Kentucky gala to benefit eight local charities in 2007, up from six in recent years. Selection of the eight charities was announced by Ruth Eger, vice president of the Northern Kentucky Leadership Foundation of the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce.Fifth Third Bank and The Yearlings, who have supported Charity Night at the Tables since its inception in 2002, continue as sponsors of the event, set for March 17 in the Maker's Mark VIP Tent at Turfway Park."The Northern Kentucky Leadership Foundation is pleased to announce the beneficiaries of 'Charity Night at the Tables' for 2007," said Eger. "We received a record number of applications from area non-profits and then had the difficult task of selecting the recipient organizations. It was obvious that more and more of these non-profit agencies are dealing with significant reductions in funding, and we decided to increase the number of recipients from six to eight."
Hosted annually by the Northern Kentucky Leadership Foundation and Turfway Park, "Charity Night at the Tables" will offer Monte Carlo gaming fueled by friendly competition and play money. The gala is tied each year to the $500,000 Lane's End Stakes (gr. II) at Turfway Park March 24, as each charity chooses a horse running in the track's biggest race of the year. As in previous years, the charity whose horse finishes best in 2007 will take home $10,000 for its work. The other seven charities are guaranteed at least $3,000, an increase of $1,000 from recent years. The eight charities chosen to participate in this year's Charity Night at the Tables are as follows: Dress for Success Cincinnati; HealthPoint Family Care; Interfaith Hospitality Network of Northern Kentucky; Kentucky 4-H Foundation; New Hope Family Life Center; The Parish Kitchen; Senior Services of Northern Kentucky; and the Steinford Toy Foundation.
