An $85,000 yearling purchase at the 2001 Keeneland September sale, Badge of Silver is the winner of the 2005 runnings of the New Orleans Handicap (gr. II) and the Hals Hope Handicap (gr. III). He placed second in the 2004 Cigar Mile (gr. I) at Aqueduct, and has $770,892 in purse earnings.
Multiple graded stakes winner Badge of Silver, in training with Bobby Frankel, is to make his next start in the Breeders' Cup NetJets Mile (gr. I) at Churchill Downs on Nov. 4, according to owner Ken Ramsey."We were looking at a couple allowance races for him," Ramsey said. "Then I was talking to Bobby and he said, 'You know what? He's doing so good, let's just run him in the mile.' So at least he'll be entered; whether we get in or not is another story."Originally scheduled to retire to stud at the beginning of 2006, the 6-year-old son of Silver Deputy remained in training with Frankel instead. But he has not started since winning the Jan. 1 San Gabriel Handicap (gr. IIT), his only trip over the turf in a career that has spanned five seasons. With 7 wins from 14 career starts, the horse was entered to run in the 1 1/8-mile Bernard Baruch Handicap (gr. IIT) at Saratoga on Aug. 26, but scratched the morning of the race.
