(Edited press release)
Officials of Breeders' Cup and the National Thoroughbred Racing Association announced Oct. 24 the race order, post times, and wagering menu for the 23rd Breeders' Cup World Championships, to be held Nov. 4 at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky.

There will be 10 races on the Breeders' Cup Day program. The eight Breeders' Cup Championships races, televised live by ESPN (12–7 p.m., all times Eastern), will feature total prize money exceeding $20 million.

The day's first two races are the Emirates Airline Ack Ack Mile (gr. III) at 11:15 a.m. followed by the Emirates Airline Very Subtle Stakes at 11:45.

The post time for the first Breeders' Cup race (all grade I), the $2 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies, will be at 12:30 p.m. The other races are as follows: $2 million Bessemer Trust Breeders' Cup Juvenile (1:10); $2 million Emirates Airline Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf (1:55); $2 million TVG Breeders' Cup Sprint (2:35); $2 million NetJets Breeders' Cup Mile (3:15); $2 million Emirates Airline Breeders' Cup Distaff (3:55); $3 million John Deere Breeders' Cup Turf (4:35); and $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic – Powered by Dodge (5:20).

"Breeders' Cup Championships Day has become the best betting day in all of sports," said Ken Kirchner, NTRA senior vice president of product development. "With total wagering expected to exceed $125 million, fans have the opportunity to win thousands of dollars in each Breeders' Cup race.

"With payoffs averaging $25 for win bets, $230 for exactas, $2,600 for trifectas, plus superfectas on every race, two Pick 4s, and the Ultra Pick 6; fans should get their bankrolls ready for what's sure to be another great day of racing and betting."

Each Breeders' Cup race will feature a maximum of 14 horses and wagering interests. In addition to the standard win, place, and show betting, there will be exacta, trifecta, and superfecta wagering on all 10 races; rolling Pick 3 wagers; and two Pick 4s. There will also be three Daily Doubles. For the first time, the Pick 4s will have guaranteed gross pools, with the early Pick 4 having a $1 million guarantee and the late Pick 4 guaranteed for $1.5 million.

The Breeders' Cup Ultra Pick 6, with a minimum $3 million guaranteed pool, begins with the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf (Race #5) and runs through the Classic. In 2003, the Ultra Pick 6 produced a single winner, Graham Stone, who cashed a winning wager worth over $2.7 million. That payoff almost matched the world record Ultra Pick 6 payoff in 1999 of $3.1 million.
