TVG Sets Breeders' Cup Day Handle Record

Edited press release

TVG processed a record-setting $6,708,450 in wagers, including $4,815,799 in wagering on the eight Breeders' Cup World Championships events, Nov. 4 from Churchill Downs.

Total handle for the day was up 24.3% from Breeders' Cup day in 2005, making it the second largest single-day handle in TVG history, eclipsed only by 2006 Kentucky Derby day, when TVG processed $7,555,959 in wagers.

"The results demonstrated once again that fans continue to turn to TVG for racing's premier events," TVG general manager David Nathanson said. "We congratulate our partners at the Breeders' Cup on their record handle and we are happy to have been a contributor to that growth."

TVG's handle on the eight Breeders' Cup races was up 21.8% from the previous year.

TVG is the official sponsor of the Breeders' Cup Sprint Division and marketing partner of the National Thoroughbred Racing Association. This year, TVG offered its pre-Breeders' Cup "The Works" show on demand to customers of Cablevision, Insight, and Cox Communications.

The network also recently launched, its "play-for-fun" educational Web site aimed at expanding the horse racing audience, which was promoted heavily on the ESPN telecast of the Breeders' Cup and experienced escalating traffic and new subscriber growth throughout the Breeders' Cup program.
