Vinery Starts Silver Train Off at $25,000

Silver Train, who ended Lost in the Fog's unbeaten streak in winning last year's TVG Breeders' Cup Sprint (gr. I), has arrived for stallion duty at Dr. Tom Simon's Vinery near Lexington. His fee will be $25,000.

Silver Train, who won the six-furlong Sprint in 1:08.86, also was a grade I winner this year. At the spring/summer Belmont Park meeting, he captured the mile Metropolitan Handicap (gr. I) in 1:34.27 over Sun King and Mass Media and then took the Tom Fool Handicap (gr. II) at seven furlongs in 1:21.66 over War Front. Bypassing the Breeders' Cup Sprint, he closed out his career with a third-place effort in the Nov. 25 Hill 'n' Dale Cigar Mile Handicap (gr. I) at Aqueduct.

Silver Train retired with six wins from 17 races and earnings of $1,259,345. He also won last year's Jerome Handicap (gr. II) and was stakes-placed twice.

Bred by Joe Mulholland Sr. and sons Joe Jr. and John, Silver Train raced first for Buckram Oak Farm and made his last three starts for Four Roses Thoroughbreds. He is by Old Trieste out of the stakes-placed Cormorant mare Ridden in Thestars.
