Jermaine Bridgmohan Sets Tropical Win Mark

(from Calder release)
Apprentice jockey Jermaine Bridgmohan rode his 85th winner of the 2006-07 Tropical at Calder meet on Dec. 20 to set a record for most winners by a jockey during the season.

The previous record of 84 was held by Cornelio Velasquez and was set in 2002-03 during a 53-day meet. This year's season is 60 days long and concludes on Jan. 2. The first Tropical at Calder meet was held in 1972-73.

Bridgmohan's 85th winner came aboard Dr. D.K. Paul and Dr. J.C. Benjamin's 4-year-old filly Island Miss for trainer Cecil Paul.

Bridgmohan, 18, started competing in races this summer at Calder. He currently rides with a five-pound allowance. He recorded 41 winners during the 112-day Calder meet to finish ninth in the overall standings.

He is the clear leader in the current standings with veteran jockey Manoel Cruz in second place.
