Fair Grounds Cancels Racing Thursday

(Edited Press Release)

Fair Grounds Race Course canceled its live racing program Dec. 21 because of poor track conditions.

“We met with our jockey colony this morning, and they were concerned about the condition of the track,” said Fair Grounds president Randy Soth. “Safety, both for equine and humans, is always going to take first priority.”

Customers who arrived on-track before the cancellation received a rain check for use on any other day this season. Live racing programs for Thursday’s card can be exchanged for a program on any other day this meet. The cancellation has no effect on Fair Grounds’ OTB operations, which will continue throughout the day, including the OTB facility adjacent to the grandstand.

Fair Grounds director of racing Sam Abbey said the Dec. 21 scheduled races would be brought back as extra races for Dec. 29 and 30. Fair Grounds will take entries for both of those cards Dec. 24.
