Filly Miss A. Bomb Radiates in Gowell Stakes

(from Turfway Park release)
Lively Miss A. Bomb lived up to her name, taking the $50,000 Gowell Stakes for 2-year-fillies at odds of 21-1 Saturday at Turfway Park.

Breaking from the outside post in a field of nine, jockey Orlando Mojica hustled Miss A. Bomb quickly toward the rail and then settled her in fourth behind the early pace set by Miss Holiday Inn, who set the first quarter at :21.55 and the second at :45 flat. Miss A. Bomb was bumped midway through the turn but took a clear lead mid-stretch. She drifted out a bit but held off 3-5 favorite Over the Edge to get the win. Over the Edge, Brice Blanc aboard, angled outside the leader and then to Miss A. Bomb's inside before coming on strongly to finish a neck back in second. Sheets, who pressed the early pace for William Troilo, finished another 1 1/4 lengths back in third.

A claim of foul by Blanc over the bumping incident was not allowed.

Grant Hofmans was the winning trainer.

Completing the order of finish were Taletobetold, She's Impossible, Shezadoubleagent, Colton's Magic Cat, Babes, and Miss Holiday Inn. Rich N Clever, Richwood Gold, Spooked, and Igraine scratched.

Miss A. Bomb finished the six furlongs in 1:09.99 and paid $45.80, $11 and $5.80. Owned by Dick Colvin and William D. Gould, the Lemon Drop Kid  bay filly broke her maiden at Turfway in September at first asking and now has two wins and one second in five starts for career earnings of $51,510. The Gowell Stakes is her first stakes win.
