HRTV, Oaklawn Park Ink Coverage Agreement

Edited press release

HorseRacing TV and Oaklawn Park have reached an agreement for live carriage of the Hot Springs, Ark., racetrack’s meet that begins Jan. 19 and ends April 14.

The agreement further boosts the high-quality of HRTV’s winter programming schedule, which already includes two other premier winter race meets--Gulfstream Park and Santa Anita Park.

HRTV’s coverage will include live broadcast of the majority of Oaklawn’s races, as well as post parades and expert analysis from the network’s stable of hosts and analysts.

During the 56-day Oaklawn meet, racing will be conducted four days a week (Thursday-Sunday) in January and February, and expands to five days a week (Wednesday-Sunday) in March and April. Weekday and Sunday post time is 1:30 p.m. Central time, while Saturday’s first post is 1 p.m.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Oaklawn Park to our programming line-up this winter,” said Amy Zimmerman, executive producer for HRTV. “Oaklawn Park has a rich history of producing racing champions--particularly in recent years with Smarty Jones and Afleet Alex--and it continues to boast world-class racing at a wonderful facility.

"The combination of Oaklawn, Santa Anita, and Gulfstream creates a television lineup that is second to none between now and the Triple Crown season.”

“Serious horseplayers and the racing industry have come to recognize HorseRacing TV as the television focal point for winter Thoroughbred action,” said Bobby Geiger, director of wagering for Oaklawn.

“We’re pleased to become a part of HRTV’s coverage of the sport, and look forward to working with them to increase the visibility of Oaklawn Park throughout the coming months.”

Oaklawn has scheduled 26 stakes for the meet, with the $1-million Arkansas Derby (gr. II), a prominent Triple Crown prep race, set for closing day.
