Medallist's First Foal Born at Keeneland Sale

Medallist’s first foal, a bay colt, was born at Keeneland Sales Barn 32 at about 1 a.m. on Jan. 14, Three Chimneys Farm announced.

The Medallist colt is out of Waterland, by Explodent, and was bred by Dr. K.K. Jayaraman.

He is a half-brother to four winners, including Royal Medal, a winner of $91,729. Waterland’s third dam is South Ocean – dam of champions Northernette and Storm Bird, and blue hen mares Stormette, Oceana, and Ocean’s Answer.

“He’s a good sized baby, and we’re pleased with him,” said Case Clay, Three Chimneys' director of sales.

“He certainly found a great way to make his mother stand out in the sale, and for his sire’s first foal to be distinctive.”

Clay estimated the mare and her new foal would go through the ring sometime between 2 and 3 p.m. on Jan. 14.
Medallist, by Touch Gold out of a Star de Naskra mare, is the first homebred to stand at Three Chimneys.

He won the Dwyer (gr. II), the Withers (gr. III), the Deputy Minister  Handicap (gr. III) and Kenny Noe Jr. Handicap in his 12 starts.

He stands for $8,500 live foal, payable Sept. 1.
