'All Other Fillies' Favored In First Kentucky Oaks Future Pool

(Edited press release)

Frank Calabrese's unbeaten homebred Dreaming of Anna, winner of the $2 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. I) and champion 2-year-old filly of 2006, figures to draw a lot of attention, but the wagering interest that consists of "all other 3-year-old fillies" is a lukewarm morning line favorite for the Feb. 8-11 opening pool of Churchill Downs' 2007 Kentucky Oaks Future Wager.
Churchill Downs handicapper Mike Battaglia has installed the mutuel field, a betting interest that includes all 3-year-old fillies other than the 23 individual fillies in KOFW Pool 1, as the 3-1 morning line favorite for the four-day pool that opens at noon (all times EST) Feb. 8 and concludes at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 11.

This "all others" wagering interest is a narrow choice over the accomplished Dreaming of Anna, a daughter of Rahy that has been so impressive in her four victories--including a win over males on turf in the Summer Stakes (gr. III) at Woodbine--that her owner has mentioned her as a candidate to take on males again in the Kentucky Derby presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I).

The 133rd running of the $500,000-added Kentucky Oaks (gr. I), a 1 1/8-mile race for 3-year-old fillies, is scheduled for May 4 at Churchill Downs, while the Derby will be run at the Louisville track the following day.
The KOFW allows racing fans to wager on contenders for the Kentucky Oaks at odds that could be significantly better than those they would receive on the day of the race. The wager is a $2 minimum bet and a win wager only. There are no refunds in the KOFW, and winning payouts are based on the odds that are in place at the conclusion of each respective KOFW pool.
The KOFW is entering its fifth year and the "all others" betting interest has been favored in the opening pool twice since the wager moved to its current three-pool format.

North American racing fans wagered a combined $171,814 in last year's three KOFW pools, the second largest total since the bet went to a three-pool format in 2004. Racetracks and simulcast wagering centers across North America will offer the bet, as Woodbine and other selected Canadian outlets will offer the wager for the second consecutive year. Pool 2 of the KOFW is scheduled for March 8-11, while the year's third and final pool is set for April 12-15.
Pools for the Kentucky Oaks Future Wager run concurrently with the Kentucky Derby Future Wager, but betting on the Oaks wager will close 30 minutes after Sunday's conclusion of betting on the Derby pool.
Real-time odds on each pool of the Kentucky Oaks Future Wager will be at kentuckyoaks.com.
