The “all others” wager was the 3-1 people’s choice when betting on day two of KDFW Pool 1 drew to a close on Friday evening. James Tafel’s Street Sense, the record-smashing 10-length winner of last fall’s Bessemer Trust Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (gr. I) at Churchill Downs, remained the second choice at 6-1. Elizabeth Valando’s Nobiz Like Shobiz, successful in his 3-year-old debut last week in Gulfstream Park’s Holy Bull (gr. III), stands as the 7-1 third choice.
Wagering in the United States and at selected Canadian simulcasting outlets totaled $81,803 during the first two days of the four-day pool. Wagering is scheduled to resume on Saturday at noon (all times EST). The Kentucky Derby presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) is May 5.
Other Kentucky Derby hopefuls that continued to attract strong support in Friday’s betting included Sham Stakes (gr. III) winner Ravel and Hard Spun, winner of the Lecomte Stakes (gr. III) at Fair Grounds. Both horses stood at odds of 9-1. The Todd Pletcher-trained duo of Any Given Saturday, runner-up in last fall’s Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes (gr. II) at Churchill Downs, and Circular Quay, the winner of the Hopeful (gr. I) at Saratoga and the morning line favorite for tomorrow’s Risen Star (gr. III) at the Fair Grounds, were next at 16-1.
Pool 1 betting will continue through Sunday at 6 p.m. Pool 2 of the KDFW is scheduled for March 8-11, while the third and final pool is set for April 12-15.
