Citgo Racing to the Kentucky Derby Begins March 17

(Edited press release)

“Citgo Racing to the Kentucky Derby” will once again air on ABC and the ESPN networks beginning March 17, the National Thoroughbred Racing Association announced Feb. 15.

The series provides coverage of more than a dozen key Triple Crown prep races, as well as the $6 million Dubai World Cup (UAE-I) showdown between 2006 Horse of the Year Invasor and the horse responsible for his only career defeat in last year’s S & M Al Naboodah Group U.A.E. Derby (UAE-II), Discreet Cat.

Invasor, who also was named champion older male last year, is coming off a season-opening win in the Donn Handicap (gr. I) that pushed his career record to 10 wins in 11 starts. Discreet Cat, a 2006 Eclipse finalist in both the champion 3-year-old and champion sprinter categories, is a perfect 6-for-6, including a win in last November’s Hill 'n' Dale Cigar Mile Handicap (gr. I).

Beginning with live coverage March 17 of the San Felipe Stakes (gr. II) from Santa Anita Park and the Rebel Stakes (gr. III) from Oaklawn Park, “Citgo Racing to the Kentucky Derby” will offer action from eight different race tracks. The series will conclude with a Triple Crown special airing from Louisville’s Churchill Downs two days prior to the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I).
