(from Maryland Jockey Club release)
A wintry mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain that is expected to hit the Baltimore-Washington region Sunday forced Maryland Jockey Club officials to cancel live racing at Laurel Park for Sunday, Feb. 25.
The February 14 card was canceled for similar reasons.
“In light of the winter storm advisory, we thought it was in the best interest of all the parties -- the horses, the horsemen, the jockeys, and our fans -- to cancel in advance as we did a week and a half ago,” said Lou Raffetto, president and chief operating officer of the Maryland Jockey Club.
“This gives everyone time to make plans accordingly and not get caught short at the last minute.”
Laurel Park and its sister track, Pimlico Race Course, will be open for simulcasting Sunday afternoon.
Entries for the March 2 card will be taken by the Laurel Park racing office Sunday afternoon as scheduled.
Live racing is scheduled to resume Feb. 28.
