With three major Triple Crown prep races run over the March 3-4 weekend, the respective winners were elevated in the rankings of TC nominees based on earnings in graded stakes races.
Graded stakes earnings are used to determine the 20-horse starting field in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) if the number of entries exceeds that number.
Scat Daddy’s victory in the Fountain of Youth (gr. II) enhanced his graded earnings by an additional $210,000, with his total graded earnings of $708,500 placing him sixth on the list that is headed by champions Dreaming of Anna ($1,225,040) and Street Sense ($1,152,000).
Just ahead of Scat Daddy on the graded earnings list is Great Hunter, who picked up $120,000 for his victory in the Robert B. Lewis Stakes (gr. II) at Santa Anita. The enhanced his graded earnings total to $730,000.
One of the biggest moves on the list was made by King of the Roxy, the Hutcheson Stakes (gr. II) winner who went from 16th to 11th. His Hutcheson purse of $190,000 increased his total graded stakes earnings to $280,000.
