Folk Romps Over Fillies in Dubai, UAE Derby Next

(Edited Dubai Racing Club release)
Folk trounced her field in the US$250,000 Al Tayer Motor Oaks for fillies at Nad Al Sheba for fillies Thursday night and will have an opportunity  to do the same to the colts in the UAE Derby (UAE-II) on Dubai World Cup night on March 31.

In a bold move, trainer Ismail Mohammed will point his flying filly to the colts' classic, and, in turn, will now run Eu Tambem, who was set to run in the UAE Derby, in the Dubai World Cup (UAE-I).

“She was very impressive and had a lot left in the locker," said Mohammed. "We will make history now and go for the UAE Derby, while Eu Tamben will go for the big one.”

Folk's win was Mohammed’s third of the night and remarkably his 16th of the 2007 Dubai International Racing Carnival, which saw him easily seal the DIRC Trainers’ Reward first prize of US$120,000.

It was a double celebration as winning rider Kerrin McEvoy also sealed the award for being the Dubai International Racing Carnival’s top jockey with nine wins. Folk’s owner, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, won the owners’ prize with 10 victories.

Mohammed was also on the mark in the opening Land Rover Classic on Mount Hadley, and the closing contest, the Al Tayer Motors Challenge, thanks to Crime Scene’s surge under Johnny Murtagh.
