Skeeter Johnson, Polo Player, Dies

S.K. "Skeeter" Johnson died April 5 at the Delray Medical Center in Florida. He was 53.

According to a report from the Palm Beach Daily News, Johnson was injured the previous day on the family polo field near Wellington, Fla., while preparing for the 2007 Standford U.S. Open championships at the International Polo Club.

The newspaper reported that Johnson's horse stumbled after hitting another horse on the field and went down. The accident caused the horse to roll over on top of Johnson, causing multiple injuries.

A graduate of Eckerd College, Johnson was a former vice-president of Coca-Cola Enterprises, spending more than 27 years with the industry. He was also a board member of the Krystal Company, MetalTek International, and e-Skye Solutions.

The Palm Beach Daily News reported that Johnson was a co-founder of the recently formed North American Polo League and had played the sport for more than 35 years.

Johnson is survived by his wife, Leslie, and a daughter, Louisa.
