Naify Gets Call to Head TOC Board of Directors

Edited press release

Marsha Naify has become the first woman to head the Thoroughbred Owners of California in the organization’s 12 years of existence.

Naify was elected chairwoman of the TOC board of directors, replacing Alan Landsburg, who retired from the board after serving for chairman the last three years.  Naify was first elected to the TOC in July 2005; she spent her last year on the board serving as vice chair of Southern California.

Since leaving United Artists Theatre Circuit, where she worked for more than 15 years, Naify has split her time between her real estate business, her civic and philanthropic work, and her Thoroughbred racing and breeding interests. She was a mayoral appointee to the city of Long Beach’s Human Relations Commission, and served on the city’s inaugural Hate Crimes Response Team.

Currently, Naify, a Long Beach resident, sits on the advisory board for Harbor Area Halfway House, and is involved in supporting St. Jude’s Children's Hospital, UNICEF, and Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. Born and raised in San Francisco, she is a graduate of the University of Southern California, and also holds certificates in nonprofit program administration and nonprofit executive management from Cal State Long Beach and UC-Irvine, respectively.

“I look forward to using my experience in business as well as my experience with nonprofit organizations to make TOC the best organization possible,” Naify said.

Since purchasing her first horse seven years ago, Naify has spent time building up her Thoroughbred racing and breeding business, which is headquartered in Del Mar, where she has a second residence. Previous stakes winners from her stable include Dublino, Blackdoun, and Amorama. She currently has stakes winners Surf Cat, Selvatica, and Storm Wolf among her horses in training.

The TOC is the official organization serving Thoroughbred owners in the state. It represents, advances, and protects owners’ interests and rights in legislative, administrative, and business matters, and provides ongoing educational opportunities for current and prospective owners.
